A trademark protects the name, logo or slogan that tells customers a product comes from you. Registration strengthens that protection, but it begins with use — and with choosing a mark that is distinctive in the first place.
Before you invest in signage, packaging or merchandise, run a clearance search. Discovering a conflict after launch is far more expensive than discovering it before.
Once registered, use the mark consistently and police it. A brand that is applied carelessly is harder to defend.
